Alberto Bandura: Inspiring Career

Alberto Bandura, is one of the most famous clinical psychologists of our time. He is also one of the most influential people that I look up to when it comes to me wanting be a Clinical Psychologist. I first discovered information about Alberto Bandura through his famous experiment of the BoBo doll during my Introduction to Psychology class. I was very intrigued at the experiment that he performed. Alberto is also famous for his cognitive and social learning theories. He has also published books based on his discoveries such as Adolescence Aggression, Social Learning & Personal Development. By researching Bandura’s career accomplishments and how he contributed to the field of clinical psychology, I must say that he was very dedicated and a hard worker with his research to reach the height of success that he has.

For many people, accomplishing a career is a satisfying goal once they graduate and earn their college degree. But why stop there? I always knew that once I reach my career as a clinical psychologist, I would want to prevail even more for my successful future. That is also why I admire the work of Alberto Bandura. Not only was he a famous clinical psychologist, but he was also elected in 1973 as the president of American Psychological Association and was awarded the APA Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award. That award was given based upon psychologist who has made distinguished discoveries in psychology. Bandura also made another significant mark for psychology by being awarded the American Psychological Foundation Gold Medal Award for Life Achievement in 2006. Reading up on the awards that Bandura has earned throughout his career has inspired me to make my mark as a future psychologist to help change the future of clinical psychology as well as helping those in need.

Alongside the career achievements that Bandura has, I found his personal life to also be inspiring. You would think with the amount of accomplishments that this man has achieved as a clinical psychologist that he might have come from a privileged and educated family. However, that is not the case. Alberto Bandura was raised by a family who didn’t have an education, but made sure he was pushed to receive his. Knowing information about his personal life and seeing how that has helped him reach the goals that he has set fourth for himself has motivated me to do the same. It’s not always where you come from, but where you’re going and where you end up at in life. Looking up to Alberto Bandura and how he was blessed and successful with his accomplishments in life is something truly inspiring that I hope to see happen for myself in the near future for me becoming a clinical psychologist through much effort and dedication.

Hi Adrienne, Alberto Bandura sounds like an amazing clinical psychologist. I also remember taking the Intro to Psychology course, and learning about the BoBo doll experiment. You have chosen one of the many influential persons that studied psychology. The fact that Alberto came from a family without an education made him strive to do more. I also like the point you made about when completing your degree you shouldn’t stop. The motivation that you have Adrienne don’t let it go because, I can see you doing great things. So keep doing what you are, and get over all the complications that will follow in life. I look forward to reading more of inspirational posts.

I also learned about Albert Bandura’s “BoBo doll” experiment in my Introduction to Psychology class. At first, I was thinking that when I have kids I would try my best to raise them in an environment that is violence free. Watching the experiment videos, made me wonder about how the kids would grow up with anger issues or even domestic violence as a norm. The experiment proves that kids watch what adults do around them at a very young age and then as they grow up they develop the same habits. I came to the conclusion that maybe if I raise them where I do not yell at them so much, then they will not yell at each other. It is fascinating the way that he was raised by a family who was not educated. Most of the times uneducated elders always push their kids to make something of themselves, because deep down inside they want them to experience what they did not get the chance to experience. Most people who are lucky enough to get an education take the idea of school for granted. Meanwhile there are people who would like to go to school but they do not have the support needed to go register for a semester. I could relate to his story a little. I also try to be the best I can be, even if it means been in school for a couple more years because at the end it is going to be worth my time.
